Why Frogs Cry In the Rain is an adaptation of a Korean folktale set in the rural American South. In a small North Carolina town, a catastrophic hurricane approaches. Those who can afford to leave do, and those who cannot don’t. 17 year old Bully finds herself torn between survival and loyalty. She wants to escape but is unwilling to leave her father, who is determined to protect their mobile home. When her best friend Finn offers her a ride out of town, she declines, believing she can change her father’s mind. The conflict between the two reaches a breaking point, tangled up in the recent death of her mother. At the climax, the storm is banging on their door and Bully must make her final choice. She decides to shelter in place with her father and work through their differences. The two survive the storm to find their home completely destroyed, leaving with nothing but each other and a new relationship between them.
