God Dammit

Simone (Charlie Morgan Patton) an up-and-coming jiu jitsu athlete, has spent years building her identity around the sport she loves. But after a series of injuries threatens to derail her career, one final setback forces her to confront a reality she’s been desperately trying to avoid: in her 30s, with her body breaking down and her competitive future uncertain, the comeback she’s been fighting for may no longer be possible.

While preparing for a comeback match, Simone instinctively puts herself in harm’s way to protect a friend from a potentially devastating accident, re-injuring her already fragile leg in the process. Suddenly faced with the possibility that her career is truly over, Simone retreats into the familiar comforts of home, tater tots, and routine. But as she tries to process what comes next, a bizarre series of events sends her somewhere she never expected to go.

On the other side, Simone finds herself face-to-face with God (Kate Flannery, The Office), a surprisingly casual, football-obsessed figure who seems far more interested in the Jets and a good bowl of tater tots than the existential crisis unfolding in front of her.

What begins as a strange encounter becomes an unexpected reckoning with Simone’s relationship to competition, identity, failure, and what it actually means to keep fighting when the thing you’ve fought for your entire life may be slipping away.
