Based on true events and blending narrative with archival documentary footage, Finding Syn follows 10-year-old Skylah after her older sister runs away from home. Carrying only a photograph, Skylah wanders the streets searching for her, confronting uncertainty while remaining determined to bring her home. Told through the eyes of a child, the film becomes a story about resilience, longing, and the emotional bond between sisters.
This film was inspired by lived experiences shared by Syn and Skylah, the two young sisters at the center of the story. Through conversations with them, I became interested in exploring the emotional impact of absence, fear, and uncertainty through the eyes of a child. I felt compelled to tell this story because it reflects realities many young Black children quietly experience but rarely see represented with tenderness.
