Best known for Luther, one of the first nationally syndicated comic strips to center Black characters and address racial and social issues head-on, Brandon’s work captured the essence of the Black experience in America with humor, honesty, and sharp political insight.

Rooted in Washington, DC’s rich cultural and artistic history, this documentary examines Brandon’s journey from an emerging artist to an influential voice in the comic industry. Through archival footage, personal writings, and exclusive interviews with his daughter, acclaimed cartoonist Barbara Brandon Croft, his siblings, and historian, Dr. Sandra Jowers, the film paints an intimate portrait of a man who used ink and paper as tools for activism.
