Rare Birds

Rare Birds follows three characters at three different stages of life — a failure-to-launch young adult, a lonely child, and an ailing senior — all going through parallel emotional journeys but refusing to connect with one another.

Jerry has been fired from every job in town. His last chance is at a local antique store, where he keeps breaking all the merchandise. His boss, 90-year-old Henry, is fed up with him. If Jerry breaks one more thing, he’s out of options for good.

When Jerry’s 12-year-old former camper, Candice (from his days as a counselor at the local summer camp), shows up trying to convince him to shoot hoops with her, he does everything in his power to get her to leave. But Candice won’t be shaken. She can’t understand why Jerry would prioritize his lame job over basketball, nor why he would insist that children and adults cannot be friends. Despite Jerry’s pleas for her to leave and claims that the two are not real friends, Candice stays put, determined to get Jerry to change his mind and save him from this dead-end job.
