The Art Of Connection – NoDa Cloud Wall’s Story, made possible by Grubb Properties, goes behind-the-scenes to chronicle the creation of a massive, community-driven mural located at Link Apartments NoDa 36th in Charlotte, North Carolina. Curated by Gökotta and led by artist Elizabeth Palmisano, the project is a “love letter” to the NoDa (North Davidson) neighborhood, designed to incorporate the voices of its residents.
The film details the multi-year process, which began with a “wish campaign” where Palmisano collected over a thousand wishes from the community. These wishes—some joyful, some sad—were then incorporated into the mural as a way to honor the full range of human emotion and ensure the community felt included in the rapid changes happening in NoDa.
The mural project involved the collaboration of over 18 local artists, as well as a fabrication company that helped create large-scale sculptural cloud elements. #NoDaCloudWall is more than just a piece of art; it’s a model for how public art can be a truly collaborative, community-responsive process that fosters connection, honors personal experiences, and makes people feel heard.
The truest power of this art isn’t in its size, but in its ability to give people a permanent stake in their neighborhood. Through The Art Of Connection, this project models how development and community can be one and the same.
