What led you to creating Noxturne?

Noxturne behind the scenes

In September ’22, I fractured my T-12 vertebrae in six places due to a debilitating horseback riding accident – just three months after meeting my now fiancee. NOXTURNE is inspired by my accident and subsequent recovery, including the emotional shock and insecurity of going from a super passionate relationship to one in which a man almost a decade my junior was taking care of me.

As I was going through my recovery, I felt there was a fine line between reality and dream. With so much time on my hands, much of it spent in bed, I often felt I was daydreaming.

What were some inspirations going into the creative process?

I have always been an avid dreamer and often lucid dream. As I was going through my recovery, I felt there was a fine line between reality and dream. With so much time on my hands, much of it spent in bed, I often felt I was daydreaming. Polanski’s “The Tenant” inspired me a lot during this process as did Aronofsky’s “The Black Swan.”

Tell us what you hope the audience gets from Noxturne and why is a story like this important to tell?

Hopefully the story told in Noxturne can inspire audience members to persevere through their own journey of healing – whatever that means to them. And if they know anything about Jungian psychology or shadow work, I think they will appreciate the film even more =)

How did you become a filmmaker?

Noxturne behind the scenes

I minored in film at Dartmouth College where I learned how to shoot on 16mm and edit my films on a Steenbeck! Even back then, I acted in my own short films and it helped me with my acting a lot actually, to see how to translate what I wanted into my actions on camera. I then went on to work as a videographer for a few years and then went to NYU Grad Film over a decade later. And now a decade after that finally made my first feature. It’s not easy getting your first movie made! I’ve always wanted to tell stories – whether in theater or film – whether through acting or filmmaking. Learning the technical aspects of filmmaking however have greatly helped me in being able to direct in the most effecient way possible.
