I Owe It All to You
The Jury is proud to present the Champa & Vasant Patel Carolina Film Award to I Owe It All to You, a beautifully crafted short documentary following musician Luther Allison in the hours leading up to a showcase of his debut album at Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center.
The Jury was especially impressed by the film’s strong cinematography, thoughtful framing, sound mixing, editing, and color, all of which come together to create a polished and immersive portrait of Allison and his fellow musicians. Over the course of a relatively brief timeframe, the filmmakers capture both the preparation behind the performance and the excitement of artists taking a chance on themselves and their work.
Short, focused, and assured in its filmmaking, I Owe It All to You celebrates the creative journey and the commitment it takes to pursue a life in music. It is a fitting recipient of an award honoring Carolina filmmakers whose work encourages audiences to “Discover Different.”
