Year-Round Volunteers
Assembling a successful film festival is a year-round project. Therefore, we need help in organizing, promoting and facilitating all the events that form part of it. Year-round, volunteers choose volunteer roles that fit their own schedules and interests. At first, volunteers are encouraged (and expected) to take on administrative tasks. As volunteers spend more time with the organization responsibilities are often increased.
Event Volunteers
If assembling a successful film festival requires a lot of planning. Actually having one requires a lot of dedicated people full of energy and a love of films.
Event volunteers are trained to do a skilled activity on behalf of a specific department. A minimum commitment of 16 on-duty hours during the Festival is required. Below are just a few of the most common roles they fulfill.
GUEST SERVICES - Guest Services Volunteers provide information to patrons, assist VIPs and answers questions about movies and the overall Festival program. This position is great for people who love working and talking with people and can memorize information easily.
TICKETING - Ticketing Volunteers assist with line control and provide important information to the public about Festival ticketing policies and procedures. Some focus on day-of ticket sales while others may be in charge of the will-call and VIP ticket counters. If you are patient and like interacting with the public this would be the perfect place for you.
THEATER OPERATIONS - These volunteers work at the core of the Festival. They check tickets, control traffic flow, hand out and collect surveys and keep theaters presentable for attendees. This position is great for people who like to be in the thick of things and want to see a lot of movies.
MERCHANDISE - Merchandise volunteers operate the counters where our T-shirts, posters and other merchandise are sold. If you are comfortable doing light selling and want a light-duty job, this might be the spot for you.
TECH AND SOUND - If you are comfortable with technology, then you should consider volunteering for a tech or soundboard shift during the Festival. Some tech volunteers assist with set-up and strike of A/V systems while other volunteers operate equipment during screenings. We provide training for this position so you do not need to have a technical background, but you must be able to learn how to operate new gadgets fairly quickly.
