Frequently Asked Questions

What is an independent film?
An independent film is a film that is conceived and created outside of the studio system. These films generally have lower budgets than typical Hollywood films, and are often the result of many years of hard work on the part of very passionate filmmakers. Many times these films tell a story that is unusual, personal and edgy.

What happens at film festivals?
Films are submitted to a screening committee selected by the festival coordinators. This committee is made up of people dedicated to the art of cinema. From the submissions, films are selected and a program of screenings is created. A wide variety of films will be shown, and many of the filmmakers will gather at the festival to see and celebrate each others' work.
