About Us
The Charlotte Film Festival is one of the many arms and legs of Indie Film Force, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization committed to helping people who dream of expressing themselves through the art of moviemaking.
A Sense of Purpose
The first goal of the Charlotte Film festival is to provide our community with an extraordinary cultural experience
by screening the most important works of independent film we can get our hands on.
The following makes up what we would consider an important film:
- It provokes thought and discussion
- It brings attention to important issues
- It shows creative use of the film medium as an art
Our second, yet equally important goal, is to bring exposure to the cause, innovation, and uniqueness of vision of the filmmakers whose films we showcase.
Our History
The first annual Charlotte Film Festival came to life on a beautiful fall day September 15, 2006, as film lovers and filmmakers met and mingled at the opening night gala in Transamerica Square, the red carpet event that launched it all.
When all was said and done, the festival saw over two thousand attendees enjoy events including world and regional film premieres, hip parties and awards ceremonies. All told, eight awards were presented to the best films in four categories documentary, narrative, short, and student film.
Our second annual film festival, in September '07, continued the tradition and cemented our standing in the community. This time 3,300 people attended and the event was referred to, by many of our attending filmmakers, one of the best film festivals they'd ever been to.
The Setting
Our vision has always been to provide our event with a true film festival atmosphere. To accomplish this, we've ensured that most of our venues are within walking distance so that people can park their cars in the morning and walk easily from one screening to the next and enjoy all the amenities Uptown Charlotte has to offer; and they are many. One of the fastest growing cities in the country, Charlotte has it all. Great restaurants, nightclubs, shopping, museums, galleries, etc.
